2-Birth and Death

From The Practical Ontology & Compendium of Social Cohesion

Definition: Introduction If we pretend for a moment that babies in the womb are like adults, then being born is a Crises. Maybe the baby should do something. However, since there is nothing babies can do in this Situation, birth is not a Crisis. It is a Condition through which babies must pass. Babies do not have the option not to be born. And once born, they do not have the option not to die, either. Mortality is a Condition, too. Between birth and death, Conditions both, there is an unending line of Situations, some of which that become Crises and the perpetual question in Crises is - What shall we do? For the mother, however, and then for the father, the grandparents, the siblings, and society at large, the mere state of a woman being pregnant is different. Some mothers, fathers, grandparents, siblings, and societies at large regard pregnancy as a Situation about which Judgments must be made. Crisis looms with each passing day. On the other hand, some regard pregnancy - once it has happened - as a Condition about which to be happy, or sad or have mixed feelings. Regardless of feelings, Nature will take its course. The baby is Overwhelmed. There is nothing the baby can do. As an Emotion ranging from great fear to great confidence in a general sort of way or in particular with regard to a given Object or Event, our Degree of Certitude begins in Crisis. If the Crisis remains unresolved, we are agitated in fear. If it is resolved, we rest in confidence. An essay is about matters that surround one or more Special Terms. Degrees of Certitude is a good example. It is made up of many Special Terms, each with its own specific commentary. An essay that covers all of Certitude's Special Terms can tie all of the commentaries together and make additional points.
