Circumstances

From The Practical Ontology & Compendium of Social Cohesion

Definition: As used herein, Circumstances refers to the totality of Persons, Events, and Objects that did, do, or will in the near future affect the Bodies and, more specifically, the Degrees of Certitude of one or more Persons, Households, Groups, Organizations or Populations. Commentary A Person, Household, Group, Organization, or Population of people is always up against Circumstances or is in Circumstances. People 10,000 years ago lived in certain Circumstances. Our Circumstances today are the same in many respects and different in others compared to our distant ancestors. We and they both need oxygen, for example. We can fly in airplanes; they could not. Our Bodies, even when we are asleep, sleep in Circumstances. For example, a Person asleep in bed downstream from a dam that has burst is affected by Circumstances that include the approaching flood. When we are awake, we conceptualize our Bodies and, more specifically, our Thinking along the length of our Degrees of Certitude as the Event(s) being affected by Circumstances. Note that Situations and Crises refer to Categories of Circumstances. "Circumstances" refers to the larger, generic thing. A Situation or Crisis happens within Circumstances. Also, see Context
