Culture

From The Practical Ontology & Compendium of Social Cohesion

Definition: As used herein, Culture refers to a complex of Objects (e.g, the built environment, visual arts, books, etc.), and Events (e.g., Thinking, Habits, Traditions, performing arts, etc.) that is supported by the Social Order of a certain time and Place. Commentary For example, People in the two Places that we now call St. Louis, Missouri, USA, and Paris, France both have Cultures supported by their respective Social Orders. The Cultures are different in many respects yet the same or similar in others. Both places have Catholic churches and cathedrals, for instance. The same kind of comparison can be made for each decade going back in history. The prevailing Social Order in each decade supported what was then the contemporary Culture. If archeologists dig up out of the ground Objects of a Culture that means the Social Order that supported that Culture collapsed or picked up and moved elsewhere.
