Ready-Willing-Able to Act

From The Practical Ontology & Compendium of Social Cohesion

Definition: As used herein, Ready-Willing-Able-To-Act refers to all of the prerequisites a Person must possess or fulfill in order to take voluntary, assertive Action with regard to a given Proposition. Note that Ready-Willing-Able-To-Act does not include the assertive Action itself. If the Action in question is to happen, it happens in the context of Judgment which is the next step after Understanding in the Degrees of Certitude. Commentary Voluntary, assertive Actions have prerequisites. Actions do not drop out of thin air. The prerequisites include being ready, willing and able to take the Action at hand. In ordinary usage, "ready" means the time is right. "Willing" means the person intends to do it and "able" means the person has the capacity to do it. As used herein, "Ready-Willing-Able-To-Act" is a single compound Special Term. Of the three Aspects of Ready-Willing-Able, the "Able" part is most likely to be problematical. The Person may Understand the Proposition at hand, but he or she just does not have the capacity to undertake the Action. He or she simply is not Able. However, as long as the Person is able to Converse or Communicate with another Person who may have the needed capacity, to that extent the first Person is Able.
