Special Term

From The Practical Ontology & Compendium of Social Cohesion

Definition: As used herein, a Special Term is a capitalized word or phrase defined and used consistently by an author of a written work. Special Terms are also used by readers who declare that their Conversations and Communications, when using Special Terms, will be in accord with their Special Term definitions. Special Terms typically are gathered in a Glossary and sometimes in an Ontology by the author or a committee of authors.

The Mission of Special Terms is to convey meaning clearly, concisely, and consistently each time they are used. The capitalization of Special Terms in the written format alerts the reader that a precise meaning is intended by the author, not an approximate meaning that the reader is free to choose from a range of possibilities. For example, Modern, Modernity, and Modern World, as used herein, refer to the same thing that is carefully defined. You are not free to assume it means contemporary, recent, or up to date.

The Purpose of Special Terms is to avoid confusion, Unnecessary Suffering, and premature death.
